Indigenous Art Commissioned for Waratah BESS Project
30 September 2024

We are proud to reflect on the commissioning of Indigenous artwork last year as part of our Waratah Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project. This collaboration demonstrates our commitment to honouring the cultural heritage of the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the project is situated.
Our Director of Development and Delivery, Richard Reynolds, commissioned artwork by Bundjalung/Darkinjung artist Jenni McEwen, created in the heart of Darkinjung Country. This initiative marked an important step in recognising and respecting the cultural significance of the land where the Waratah Super Battery is located.
Jenni’s artistic practice celebrates the language, stories, art, song, and dance of her Elders. A proud Aboriginal woman, Jenni uses her art to share an appreciation for the beauty and knowledge of traditional Country, offering these insights to her audience.
Through the symbolic language of totems and traditional Dreaming, her artwork reflects her spiritual journey. The pieces represent working on, caring for, and maintaining Country.
- The circles symbolise the different groups across the land.
- The larger circle represents unity and coming together as one.
- The colours reflect the natural landscape
