Ecology Protection at Orana – “The Lizard Lounge”

As part of a broader biodiversity conservation initiative at Orana, Akaysha Energy’s ecological team embarked on the careful relocation of hollow-bearing tree limbs to preserve critical microhabitats for native species - most notably, the vulnerable Pink-tailed Legless Lizard (Aprasia parapulchella).

Hollow-bearing limbs serve as essential refuges for numerous species, and the responsible translocation of these structures forms a vital component of our environmental management strategy. However, in the process of relocating these natural homes, our team encountered a unique moment of unintended artistry.

During the fieldwork, one tree limb was positioned in such a way that a resident Pink-tailed Legless Lizard appeared to be humorously “headless.” Though purely a trick of the camera and perspective, the image quickly captured the imagination of the team and became an internal mascot for the site’s restoration works.

What started as a surprising visual illusion evolved into a light-hearted, team-wide discussion about naming the new relocated habitat area. The temporary nickname - “The Lizard Lounge” - has since become a symbol of the team's commitment to balancing rigorous ecological standards with human creativity and storytelling.
