The Halys Substation is located on Oaky Creek Back Road in Ellesmere, Queensland, Australia. It's situated in a rural area surrounded by farmlands, with the nearest towns being Murgon and Kingaroy. The substation plays a key role in supporting the regional electricity network. Access is typically via Oaky Creek Back Road, a local rural road, providing a connection to the surrounding agricultural community.
The Halys BESS project is set to deliver clean, reliable energy to the electricity grid, while also bringing significant benefits to the Ellesmere community. This project will create opportunities for local contractors, accommodations, and suppliers, ensuring that the community is directly involved.
In March, Akaysha initiated the first round of community engagement, where we shared details about the project and addressed any questions or concerns from local residents. The Halys BESS project is designed to bolster both the state and national electricity grids, aiding in the transition to a 100% renewable energy future. We selected this location due to the capacity of the nearby Halys substation and Ellesmere’s commitment to embracing clean energy. The community’s involvement is crucial, as your input will shape the allocation of community sponsorship funds, local job creation, accommodations, and other benefits.
Akaysha will return to Kumbia, Ellesmere for a second round of community engagement in the coming months. We are also developing a Community and Stakeholder Strategy, which will include stakeholder identification, communication methods, consultations with local traditional owners, a register of interested businesses, and more. We are committed to keeping you informed and involved throughout the entire project lifecycle.
