Community Drop‑In Session Held for Connewarren Battery Project

25 March 2026

Artists Impression

Akaysha Energy recently hosted a Community Drop‑In Session to introduce the proposed Connewarren Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and provide local residents with an opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions, and share feedback.

The session was held locally at the Mortlake Soldiers Memorial Hall and was open to neighbouring landholders and members of the wider Mortlake community. Project information was displayed around the room, allowing attendees to move through at their own pace and speak directly with the project team.

Sharing information and answering questions

During the session, attendees were able to learn more about:

  • What a battery energy storage system is and the role it plays in supporting a reliable electricity network
  • The proposed location and layout of the Connewarren BESS
  • The planning process, including the planning scheme amendment and permit application
  • Key considerations such as traffic, fire management, and environmental controls

The drop‑in format encouraged open conversation and allowed for one‑on‑one discussions, ensuring people could raise questions most relevant to their individual circumstances.

Listening to community feedback

Community members shared thoughtful feedback on a range of topics, including construction traffic, fire safety, cumulative impacts of energy projects in the region, and the importance of meaningful benefits for the local community.

These conversations are an important part of Akaysha Energy’s approach to engagement — helping the project team understand local context, concerns, and priorities early in the planning process.

Ongoing engagement

Akaysha Energy is committed to early, respectful, and ongoing engagement as the Connewarren project progresses. Community feedback gathered through sessions like this helps inform project design, planning documentation, and future engagement activities.

Thank you to everyone who attended the session, took the time to ask questions, and shared their perspectives. Further updates about the Connewarren BESS will continue to be shared through the Community Portal.
